Tips from the team

Gain More Distance

How do I gain more distance? This is a question we are asked on a daily basis in the Pro shop. There are many factors that can affect the distance you hit the ball, such as quality of strike, angle of attack and club face angle, but the most effective way to hit the ball further, is to swing the club faster (stating the obvious!).

As someone who is also asking themselves this question, I am, over the next month, going to take on the challenge of increasing my club head speed by using the swing aids we have in the swing room, a weighted golf club and doing some stretching exercises. Every week I will show you what I have been doing and how this has impacted on my swing.

Currently I am swinging my 6 iron at 84 mph and my driver at 100.5 mph with an average carry distance of 168 yards and 248 yards.

Interesting Stat comparing the world's best putters and the world's best drivers

Brandt Snedeker - World Ranking 17

How Do You Hit A Draw?

We get asked this a lot, probably because so many golfers struggle with a distance-robbing slice. A soft draw is a great shot to have at your disposal as it gives you a bit more distance. However, there’s a big difference between a soft draw and a hook – so here are a few tips for you.

Try altering your set-up by aiming your feet and body right of your target line, whilst keeping your clubface aimed at the target. We want you to swing as normal; closing your body towards the target and taking your normal swing will mean your path is altered more naturally. Do this correctly and you should swing along your body line and right of target, which creates the desired draw shape.

Don’t forget to come and see us if you want any help with your swing, or if you’re looking to add a new shot to your armoury. Click here to request a lesson.

Video of the week

Just to prove that the unmentionables can strike anyone… this happened to poor Jon Rahm, playing in his first ever event as a professional. As if that wasn't bad enough, Shot Tracker technology captured it all!

It can happen to any of us…
